Quite simply, California schools are universally extremely expensive. A school like Loyola is solid and can get most grads jobs, but in no way is it worth the $94,000 COA a year sticker price. We get paid $235k + benefits + overhead and there’s no way that adds up to a loss. Even at 1/4 collection ($350k) I’d have to imagine the firm at least breaks even. If your firm bills you out at a lower rate but still pays market, then of course the math gets tighter. I think the identity of the client matters too.
